Welcome
This is the documentation for the Contractor Takeoff suite: tools built by a working estimator for specialty subcontractors who bid commercial work.
The suite has three parts:
- Contractor Takeoff is a hosted bid command center: one place for every bid’s status, documents, alerts, and export packets. It is currently in a closed pilot.
- Plan Markup is a measurement and markup app for plan sets. It runs native on Mac and in the browser, and it embeds inside Contractor Takeoff.
- contractor-bid is the free, MIT-licensed engine underneath: a local-first CLI and MCP server for bid document triage. It has its own reference docs.
Where to start
Section titled “Where to start”- New to the whole suite: read How the suite fits together.
- Evaluating the pilot: start with the Contractor Takeoff overview.
- Measuring plans today: start with the Plan Markup quickstart.
- Want the free tool now:
pipx install "contractor-bid[mcp]"and see the engine docs.
A note on what these tools will not do
Section titled “A note on what these tools will not do”None of this prices jobs. Pricing stays the estimator’s judgment. Plan Markup measures because you draw the measurement. Contractor Takeoff organizes the bid and cites its sources; it does not guess quantities. If you see wording in these docs that implies otherwise, that wording is wrong: email keith@contractorkeith.com and it will get fixed.
