Contractor Takeoff overview
Contractor Takeoff is the bid command center for specialty subcontractors. It keeps every bid, document, due date, addendum, scope alert, and next action in one source-backed workflow.
The problem it solves
Section titled “The problem it solves”If you bid work for a living, you know the drill. Invites come from email, GC portals, shared folders, and phone calls. Documents scatter. Addenda get missed. Due dates move. Nobody has one clean view of what is in flight.
Contractor Takeoff gives your team one place for all of it:
- A shared bid board with status, due date, owner, and next action for every pursuit.
- A document library per bid: plans, specs, addenda, bid forms.
- AI-assisted review that finds scope pages, spec sections, deadlines, and red flags, with every finding citing its source page.
- Alerts when addenda land, documents are missing, or a due date is closing in.
- A deterministic bid packet export so the estimator can keep working in the tools they already use.
Who it is for
Section titled “Who it is for”Specialty subcontractors, roughly 5 to 50 people, with active commercial bid flow. That usually means an operator who wants the daily picture, an estimator who is tired of hunting through PDFs before pricing can start, and a coordinator keeping the board current.
The trust rule
Section titled “The trust rule”One rule runs through the whole product: AI reads, classifies, summarizes, and drafts. Deterministic code writes the durable records. Every important output that came from your bid documents points back to a source document and page. You should never have to take the software’s word for anything. You check the page.
What it does not do
Section titled “What it does not do”Being clear about this matters more than the feature list:
- It does not price jobs. Pricing stays your judgment, always.
- It does not measure quantities. There is no computer-vision auto-takeoff. It builds the bid workspace; it does not guess numbers.
- It does not replace Bluebeam or Excel. Keep them. This manages the bid around them.
- It is not a CRM, a project management system, or a generic AI chatbot.
Related tools
Section titled “Related tools”The free, open-source contractor-bid engine proves the same workflow locally on your machine, and it stays free. Contractor Takeoff is the hosted app built around that workflow for teams that do not want a terminal.
The app’s document viewer is built on Plan Markup, so you can view plans and keep markups tied to the bid record.
